The East Newark Borough Clerk's Office organizes, runs and reports the results of the Primary & General Elections for the Borough.
The Borough of East Newark holds two elections each year. The election dates are as follows:
*Primary Election - First Tuesday after the First Monday in June. Polls are open from 6:00am to 8:00pm.
*General Election - First Tuesday after the First Monday in November. Polls are open from 6:00am to 8:00pm.
All residents report to the East Newark Senior Center, 37 President Street, East Newark, NJ to vote. Parking is available in the Recreation Center parking lot on Central Avenue.
To register to vote, you must be:
1.) a United States Citizen,
2.) At least 17 years old, though you may not vote until you have reached the age of 18
3.) a resident of the county for 30 days before the election.
4.)A person NOT currently serving a sentence, probation or parole because of a felony conviction.
The registrant must complete a Voter Registration Application and/or Party Affiliation Form. Mail or deliver the Voter Registration Application and/or Party Affiliation Form to the County Commissioner of Registration or Superintendent of Elections for your county.
You are not eligible to register to vote if:
-You are serving a sentence or on parole or probation, as a result of a conviction of an indictable offense under state or federal law.
Note: If you are no longer serving a sentence, or no longer on parole or probation..., you CAN vote in NJ by completing a new voter registration form (linked below).
-You only lose your right to vote while on parole, probation or serving a sentence due to a conviction for an indictable offense under any federal or state laws.
-If you were registered to vote before you were convicted, you must complete a new voter registration form (linked above) once you have served your time.
-If you are a pre-trial detainee or on bail pending appeal, you do not lose your right to vote.

The registration deadline to vote in the next election is 21 days prior to the election day.

New Registrants and Change of Address:
You must complete the voter registration form and check the appropriate space for address change. Change of address only applies if you have moved within the County the voter was currently registered. If a voter moves to another county, the voter must register as a new voter.
New registrations or changes must be received 21 days prior to the next Election Day.
A registered voter desiring to affiliate with a party or change their party affiliation must file a Political Party Affiliation Declaration form 50 days prior to the next Election Day.
Political Party Affiliation Declaration Forms are provided by the State of New Jersey, State Division of Elections and can be downloaded here.
In New Jersey, any voter can now vote via Absentee Ballot for any election. You do not need to state a reason for an Absentee Ballot. A completed Absentee Ballot may be sent to the Hudson County Clerk up to 7 days prior to the election by mail or delivered in person to the Hudson County Clerk's Office until 3pm, the day before the election. The County Clerk cannot accept faxed copies of an Absentee Ballot Application since an original signature is required. Mail-in Applications are provided by the State Division of Elections and can be downloaded here.
