New Pay-By-App Parking System For All Non-Residents
Posted May 09, 2023The Borough of East Newark has implemented a new pay-by-app parking system by ParkMobile for all Non-Residents. The ParkMobile parking app has replaced the town’s two-hour parking ordinance. All Non-Residents will now be required to pay for street parking, by using the contactless ParkMobile application. The fee for parking is $2.00 per hour, but time can be purchased in 20-minute intervals. People can pay by app, web, or even text, whichever way they choose. Additional time can be purchased from the app from wherever you are. To learn more about how the app works, copy and paste the following link in your browser: https://parkmobile.io/how-it-works/
The implementation of ParkMobile should reduce the number of non-resident vehicles parked on our streets and create more parking spaces for our residents, e.g., non- residents are now using the business parking lot on Central Ave., between Grant and Passaic Avenues, instead of parking on Central Ave.
We are reissuing new parking permits to all residents. Parking permits will now be displayed on the driver’s side, rear passenger window. If the rear side window is tinted, then the permit should be displayed above or below the inspection sticker on the left front windshield. Please be sure to re-register your car and display the new permit. Old permits and old visitor permits will no longer be considered valid.
As in the past, Non-Residents employed in the town, students attending college or your non-commercial work vehicle work vehicle that is registered to a company, can purchase a non-resident parking permit for $50.00 per calendar year (13.6 cents a day). The permit will be registered to a specific vehicle and correspond to the vehicle’s license plate.
A new Family Member Permit can be purchased for $50.00, by a residing resident, for a visiting family member(s). The permit will be valid for one calendar year and may be used daily between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The residents’ address will appear on the permit.
In addition to the above, the town will also offer a new Special Circumstance Permit, free of charge, for health care workers or caretakers living with, assisting, or visiting residents with special needs. The Special Circumstance Permit will be registered to a specific vehicle and correspond to the vehicle’s license plate.
Special Circumstance, Non-Resident and Family Permits can be obtained at Borough Hall with the proper documentation. Proper documentation shall include, but not be limited to, driver’s license, vehicle registration, proof of employment, caretaker credentials, doctor’s note, college student schedule, notarized letter from your landlord, rental lease, etc.
Please be advised, should there be any abuse of the permits your permit will be forfeited.
The Borough Hall office will assist you with completing your permit application. Borough Hall hours are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
